Dpatg To Jannah Media Hub reports that the President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) and Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, has declared Saturday as the first day of the Muslim New Year 1444 A.H. This is contained in a statement, on Sunday in Abuja, signed by NSCIA Director of Administration, Arc. Zubairu Haruna Usman-Ugwu.   He said: 'Muharram crescent was not sighted in Nigeria, His Eminence, the Sultan of Sokoto, has declared Saturday 30th July as the first day of Muharram 1444. The Sultanate council will release an official statement inshaAllah.'

This was revealed to our correspondent in a statement on the official social media handles (Facebook and Twitter) of the great Islamic scholar.  The statement reads below:  "To Allah we belong and to Him we return. Following the completion of this year's Hajj exercise rites, the first batch of Osun Pilgrims are expected to depart Saudi Arabia on Saturday (today) July 16, 2022. The Pilgrims who are from the State will be airlifted from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to Nigeria, having completed the Hajj exercise rites. Recall that 413 out of the cleared 576 intending Pilgrims from Osun were airlifted to Madinah, Saudi Arabia, on Monday June 13, 2022, while the second batch of the pilgrims will jet out of the country on Saturday June 18, 2022. A popular Nigerian Islamic scholar Sheikh Abdur-Rahman Maigona is dead. The 48-year-old cleric from Gombe state died at Namma Mawadda Hotel in Makkah days after completing hajj rites. He was said to have complained of illness before he passed on.   According to an eyewitness, the Islamic scholar proclaimed Khalimah Shahadah (Laila Islamic lahu – There’s no God except Allah) before he gave up. Islamic scholars agreed that such proclamation is a sign that the person will enjoy the blessing of Allah. The late Sheikh Maigona’s remains have been taken to Masjid Haram for Janazah and interment. Head of National Hajj Commission (NAHCON) Medical Team Dr Usman Shua’ibu Galadima said Sheikh Maigona was brought in around 1pm and immediately attended to.   According to him, his situation aggravated and in a bid to arrest his worsening health situation, he gave up. Galadima said the deceased had once visited the clinic and was treated for another ailment.

An Islamic activist, Mr. Adebayo Wasiu Babatunde popularly known as Taliban has congratulated Nigerian Muslims on the occasion of the Eid-Ul-Kabir celebration.  In an interview with our correspondent, he urged the Muslims to use the medium to increase in their Ibadah towards Allah. The General Authority on Civil Aviation (GACA) has announced extended flights to airlift pilgrims into the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. In a statement, on Wednesday, the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) said the gesture was a sense of relief for the 3000 Nigerian pilgrims who are yet to be airlifted to Saudi Arabia for this year’s Hajj. It added that the reprieve came after a high – level discussion between Nigeria and Saudi Arabia which was led by Alh Zikrullah Hassan, Chairman /CEO of NAHCON, in Saudi Arabia. Recall that Nigeria’s hajj TV preparation for 2022 has been marred with different challenges due to lack of adequate preparedness from NAHCON and state pilgrim boards.
