The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa'ad Abubakar has declared Monday as Eid-il fitr day.

The Shawwal crescent moon was not sighted in Saudi Arabia on Saturday, April 30, hence Eid Al Fitr will be on Monday, May 2, according to authorities. Tomorrow, May 1, will be the last day of Ramadan. Eid Al Fitr is marked on the first day of Shawwal - the month that comes after Ramadan in the Hijri calendar. Meanwhile, the UAE moon sighting committee is also set to make their official announcement. However, Nigerian Muslims are also awaiting the Sultan of Sokoto to give update on moon sighting. The Federal Government has declared May 2 and 3 as public holidays to mark the Workers Day and Eld-el-Fitr celebrations. The minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, disclosed this in a statement by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Shuaib Belgore on Thursday. He commended workers for their hard work, diligence, and sacrifice, noting that their efforts are largely responsible for the greatness of the country and the respect Nigeria now commands in the comity of nations. Olori Joyce Anene, the wife of Oba Mohood Balogun, the Olubadan of  Ibadan, has embraced Islam. This was revealed in a post by the Grand Imam of Oyo state, Sheikh Abdul Ganiyy Abubakry Agbotomokekere I. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan plans to visit Saudi Arabia later this week after years of tensions in relations between the two countries over the 2018 murder of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, three sources familiar with the trip told Middle East Eye.  Speaking anonymously, the sources said the visit was planned for Thursday, but scheduling issues could delay it to next month.  Turkey met one of the key Saudi demands in repairing relations earlier this month by deciding to hand the Khashoggi trial to Saudi Arabia, a case involving 26 suspects linked to his killing.  The 59-year-old Washington Post and Middle East Eye columnist was killed inside the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on 2 October 2018, in a gruesome murder that shocked the world. The remains of the Alaafin of Oyo, Lamidi Adeyemi, who passed on last night, are being prepared for funeral prayers, palace sources have said. The prayers will be offered at 4 p.m. inside the palace today. The Chief Imam Of Oyo State, Masud Ajokidero, has led other members of the Oyo State League of Imams to the Alaafin of Oyo’s Palace for the burial of Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III His remains were brought to Oyo in the early hours of Saturday from Ado Ekiti, where he passed on at the Afe Babalola University Teaching Hospital. Traditional rites then followed upon arrival in Oyo. Following the traditional rites, a janazah (Islamic funeral prayers before internment) will be performed on the remains. An explosion tore through a mosque near the northern Afghan city of Kunduz on Friday killing at least 33 people and wounding dozens of others. “The blast occurred at a mosque in Imam Sahib district of Kunduz killing 33 civilians including children,” government spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said on Twitter. It was not clear who was behind the attack, which came after several blasts claimed by the armed group ISIL (ISIS) rocked Afghanistan, including one in Kunduz and another on a Shia mosque in Mazar-i-Sharif, the previous day. Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, the Sultan of Sokoto has declared Saturday, April 2nd, 2022, as the first day of the Ramadan fast in Nigeria. Abubakar announced the sighting of the new crescent in Sokoto on Friday in a radio and television broadcast. He said the new moon was sighted in different parts of the country and that report of the moon sighting were received from Muslim leaders and Organisations across the country.

 The Ramadan crescent moon was sighted in Saudi Arabia on Friday evening,meaning the holy month will officially begin on Saturday, the Kingdom"s Supreme Court said. in Nigeria, the moon has yet to be sighted as many Muslims are awaiting for the announcement of  the Sultan of Sokoto and president of the Nigerian Supreme Council on Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar.
