The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar has declared Wednesday, June 1st, 2022 as the first day of Zulki'ida 1443AH. This was revealed in a statement by the secretary of National Moon Sighting Committee, Yahaya  Muhammad Boyi. He said: "The Sultanate Council Sokoto has declared Wednesday 1/6/2022 the first day of Zulki'ida 1443AH."

Alhaji Ibraheem Abdulfatai Adesina, the Coordinator of National Youth Council of Nigeria, NYCN, Ijesha Zone has condemned the killing of a student of Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto, Deborah Samuel who was burnt by irate youths in Sokoto. Deborah, a level-two female student, was accused of making a social media post that blasphemed the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW), a crime for which a mob killed her. The horrendous event led to a great outcry, especially on social media outlets, with many Nigerians condemning the act and asking that law enforcement agents ensure that the perpetrators do not escape from the long arm of the law. The Police have arraigned two suspects in connection with the murder of the 200-level student of Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto, Deborah Samuel, who was accused of blasphemy. The suspects – Bilyaminu Aliyu and Aminu Hukunchi – who are also students of the college, were arraigned before a magistrate’s court in the state on Monday. According to the Police First Information Report, the suspects were arraigned as a result of the mob action which led to the lynching of the student. After the suspects pleaded not guilty to the charges, the police prosecutor, Inspector Khalil Musa, urged the court for another date to enable the police complete their investigation. However, the defence counsels led by Professor Mansur Ibrahim, who did not oppose the application, pleaded with the court to grant the defendants bail, citing sections 157, 161(a,f) and 164 of the administration of criminal justice law of Sokoto state, as well as 36(5) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal ...

Thousands of Palestinians rallied on Sunday during Nakba Day – what Palestinians call “the catastrophe” that befell them in the war that led to the establishment of Israel in 1948. Hundreds of thousands of Palestinians were forcibly displaced from their homes during and after the war. The Nakba refers to the systematic ethnic cleansing of one-third of the Palestinian population at the time by Zionist paramilitaries between 1947-1949 and the near-total destruction of Palestinian society.   The late President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh khalifa, who died at the age of 73 on Friday in Abu Dhabi has been buried.   Sheikh khalifa was the president of UAE since 2004, but his role is mostly ceremonial after he suffered stroke in 2014. His half-brother, Mohammed bin Zayed al-Nahyan, is now incharge of state affairs. Saudi Arabia’s aging king has been admitted to hospital in the Red Sea city of Jeddah to undergo medical tests weeks after he had the battery of his pacemaker changed. A report in the official Saudi Press Agency on Sunday did not provide further details about King Salman’s condition nor the nature of the examinations. It said the king, 86, was admitted to King Faisal Specialist Hospital. “May God preserve the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and may he enjoy health and wellness,” a royal palace statement was quoted as saying. The one-time Katsina State governor is revered as by far the best leader of Africa’s most populous nation since the return to multi-party democracy in 1999.
