Sumayyah Shuaibu Salisu is an 18-year-old teenager in Zaria who memorises and writes the Holy Quran offhand. Born in Jega, Kebbi State, Sumayyah is the third daughter of a Nigerian-Saudi based Sheikh, Shuaibu Salisu Zaria, who returned to Nigeria after completing his master’s degree at the Madina University in Saudia Arabia. Speaking to Daily Trust in Zaria, Sumayyah said, “So far, I have written a complete Holy Quran with my hand without any guide from anybody or copying from any text in three months; and I am now writing the second. By Allah’s will, I would complete it too within a month or more. “Writing the Holy Quran has always been my dream, and I thank Almighty Allah for fulfilling my age-long ambition. It took me three months to write the complete Quran, despite my academic engagements. Leaving 26 children, 290 grandchildren and more than 200 great-grandchildren behind, the Chief Imam of Kafanchan Central Mosque, Adam Tahir, has died at the age of 130 years. Deputy Chief Imam of Kafanchan, Muhammad Kassim, said Sheikh Adam died on Wednesday evening in an illness. Mr Kassim said the late Imam would be greatly missed by Muslim faithful as he was a role model to all. In a condolence message, the Emir of Jema’a, Muhammad Isa Muhammad II, described the death of the imam as a huge loss to the emirate and to the people of southern parts of Kaduna State. Mr Kassim prayed God for the repose of the deceased’s soul. (NAN)

  The Standard Bearer Islamic Organization (SB) has awarded no fewer than 60 best Muslim students in Ile Ife, Ilesha, Owena, Akure and Iwo who excelled in her Career Mentorship Programme (CMP) and scholarship for WAEC/NECO examinations.   The scholarship examination, conducted across the country by the National body of the Standard Bearers Islamic Organization, included Mathematics and English Language tagged 'Career Mentorship Program’ (CMP 2022) and was conducted for over 1000 Muslim students who are in SS3 across the country. The awards ceremony for Ile Ife, Ilesha, Owena, Akure, and Iwo Zones was held on Saturday, 12th February, 2022 at Ife Central Mosque in Ile Ife. Similar awards have previously been held in Abuja (FCT), Osogbo, Osun state this year. The grand finale of the awards ceremony will hold in Ilorin, Kwara State. The  Standard Bearer Islamic Organization (SB), Ile Ife branch has inaugurated the awardees as the Career Mentorship Program (CMP) Ambassadors. The awardees who are the indigent but brilliant secondary school students and school leavers that have won the CMP awards both in the previous year and the present year were inaugurated into CMP Ambassadors Forum.  The inauguration of the awardees took place on Saturday at the Ife Central Mosque, Enuwa, Osun state after the awards ceremony. The ambassadors of the forum were majorly from Ile Ife, Ilesha, Owena, Akure and Iwo. A 14-year-old French girl, Hafizah Fatima Musa, has set a record at Nurul Tilawah International School, Zaria, Kaduna State, by memorizing the Holy Qur’an within four months. It is very usual to memorise the Holy Qur’an under one year, considering the tender age. Fatima, who is from a Muslim family in France, came to Nigeria along with her 18-year-old sister, Anijou Musa, for Islamic knowledge. The school situated in Gonar Ganye, Zaria, has been receiving students from various African countries and Europe over the last 25 years. The proprietor is the former Special Adviser to former President Goodluck Jonathan on National Mosque, Tahir Umar Tahir. The director of the school, Nura Umar Tahir, said the college had never recorded such historical performance from any of their students since inception. What began as a peaceful protest by Muslim students of Oyun Baptist High School, Ijagbo, Kwara State who staged a peaceful protest on Thursday morning  in front of the school premises to demand their right to use Hijab on uniform in accordance to the Nigerian constitution and Kwara State circular snowballed into violence.  It was learnt that the Muslims who are pupils of the school staged the protest to demand their right to use Hijab on uniform but the Kwara State chapter of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) shun them, saying NO TO HIJAB in 'their school.' It was gathered that four Muslims have been shot during the protest. The protesters said the school hired thugs and security agents to disperse them violently. In the process, one person reportedly died,t others injured.
