"Birth" by Abdulrahman Mas'ud
When the mother is in labour
Asking God for his endless Favour
With her face wet like a glass wet by rainfall
And the cry of her baby makes her gracious
With husband outside with no ease
Praying for her wife to give birth with peace
And relatives telling him to be a man and sit
Assuring him that everything will be at ease
Like someone with a lead
Coming out of her womb
Like a newbie going for a shoot
Welcomed to the world with pleasant looks
Like a celebrity who is just booked
And they walk out of the theater
Talking to him gently and not louder
Telling him his child is not in the hereafter
And that his wife is healthy as usual.
