An Epistle To A Golden Father By Oyewole Barakat

Dear father,

For every bead of sweat that gathers,
For every ache and pain
That you go through, to gain
And reign as a leader.
Even when your veins are weak
During the week, and the sun is at its peak,
Our needs are provided as quick as tick
Even if it is small like a grain
Or huge like a mountain.

Dear father,
You cater for our shelters
Through running helter-skelter;
You balance the scale between your workers and your daughters.
Even when you are afar
Your impact is still closer
To us like shoulders support dresses.

Dear father,
When you are old and weak
And you still pass the week
Working tirelessly without vigour.
I pray to God that never will this be your portion,
As we, your children will rise
And illuminate your evening with our twinkling stars.
